Rug Braiding

Saturday November 18, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.  (We will break for lunch.)

Beginners as well as experienced students are welcome.
Rug braiding, an old craft, originally incorporated worn out garments that still had usable parts and turned them into functional floor coverings.  Braiding is an easy skill that almost everyone knows.  In this class, a beginner will complete a 16” round braided chair pad and learn tips and skills to make larger braided rugs.  Participants will receive a kit containing 30-35 yards of wool tubing.  These kits are hand-made by the instructor, saving each student approximately thirty hours of preparation.

Materials needed:  lacer needle & lacing thread (both available for purchase at Ewebiquitous), sharp scissors, a clip clothespin, pen & paper for note-taking, sewing needle & thread.

Class Fee:  $65 (plus purchase of lacer needle & lacing thread.)

Instructor Marsha Campbell is a Lititz native and a retired kindergarten teacher.  Her interest in rug braiding evolved from a desire to reuse woolen garments and create a useful and lasting item.  Marsha learned to braid rugs at Landis Valley Farm Museum and has perfected her skills over the years, making more than fifteen rugs and a dozen chair pads.  Her family and good friends have been the lucky recipients of her talents.
